Hand Sanitizer 101

Hand Sanitizer 101

When choosing a hand sanitizer to use at home or work, it is important to know the facts and ask the right questions. Here’s what you need to ask and know :

  •  Does your hand sanitizer contain 80% alcohol by volume?

During the Covid pandemic, WHO has recommended that a Hand sanitizer should contain 80% alcohol content by volume. It is imperative to read the packaging label of your hand sanitizer label and verify if it meets the WHO guidelines.

  • Is your Hand Sanitizer manufactured in an FDA approved and licensed manufacturing plant ?

As the Covid pandemic continues to wreak havoc, there are many fly by night operators that have surfaced to cash in on the sanitizer market boom, who manufacture low quality sanitizer products and sell them at exorbitant prices. In such times, buyers must increase their awareness and ask the right questions. It is therefore very important to check the credentials of the company manufacturing your hand sanitizer.

  • Does your hand sanitizer dispense the correct quantity ?

About 2 ml of hand sanitizer is sufficient to cover both hands. Less than 2 ml quantity may not eliminate all the germs on contact. Before selecting a hand sanitizer, please check if the bottle dispenses the right quantity required for the germ kill action to be performed successfully.

  • Is your hand sanitizer liquid or gel based?

There are plenty of studies and literature online deliberating on the differences between Gel based and Liquid based hand sanitizers.

At Aromatree, we believe that liquid based hand sanitizers are better than the Gel based versions. Liquid based hand sanitizers are less viscous thereby making it easy for them to flow into the gaps between fingers and between nails. Due to their runny consistency, Liquid based hand sanitizers cover larger surface area and aid in the germ kill action. Do you have a preference?
